I really was not very impressed with the commercials during this year’s super bowl. There weren’t many good ones, but the good ones ended up being very enjoyable. The ones I was most excited about were the ads for two movies that are coming out that I am stoked for: Battleship and The Avengers. These ads are huge, as there hasn’t been much footage for either movie released until now.
imdb had a ten second teaser of The Avengers teaser a couple of weeks before the game. It had, again, a teaser of the teaser for the film. People go nuts for any footage they can for a movie of this scale. A movie that combines Marvel’s biggest heroes all in one feature on such a huge scale, and every nerd in their right mind is stoked for it. When this aired, I watched it with a huge smile on my face even though I couldn’t hear it because of the chatter in the room I was in, but I went online later and watched the extended version of it (embedded below). The next day, I watched it again, and again, and again, because it was that good to me.
The other ad that I loved, was the new trailer for the film Battleship, from the producers of the Transformers series. At first, people would think “how on earth could they make a movie out of the board game Battleship?”, because really, there’s nothing to it. However, the film, to me, looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it. It looks like another huge action blockbuster that I’m going to love. AND, Liam Neeson is in it, which automatically gives it a 10/10 review from me.
Both of these ads focused on the huge publics of movie fans, especially for those who love action movies and seeing their childhood’s on the big screen. Both of these movies showed great footage for each of their films and got the hype up so much more with what they showed during their less than 60 second air time.
